Hi @DP06092009,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop is struggling with performance issues across multiple games, leading to FPS drops, lag, and even blue screens. Since you've already tried resetting Windows, there might be a deeper hardware or software issue. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.

Check for Overheating and Cooling Issues

  • Thermal Throttling: If the CPU or GPU reaches high temperatures (around 90-100°C), the laptop will throttle performance to prevent damage.
  • Solution:
    • Clean dust from the laptop's vents using compressed air.
    • Use a cooling pad for better airflow.
    • Consider repasting the CPU/GPU if temperatures are consistently high.

Check CPU/GPU Usage

  • If your CPU or GPU usage is reaching 100% even during normal tasks, it could be due to background applications, malware, or bad drivers.
  • Solution:
    • Open Task Manager and check which processes are consuming the most CPU and GPU. Close unnecessary tasks.
    • Perform a virus and malware scan using Windows Defender or a third-party tool like Malwarebytes.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Outdated or faulty graphics drivers can cause performance issues in games.
  • Solution:
    • Update your GPU drivers (NVIDIA or AMD) from the official website.
    • Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to cleanly remove the current drivers and reinstall the latest ones.

Check for Game Updates and Patches

  • Make sure your games (FC24, GTA V, F1 23) are fully updated with the latest patches, as developers often release optimizations.

Reduce In-Game Settings

  • Sometimes, lowering the resolution or graphics settings can help reduce the load on the CPU/GPU.
  • Solution:
    • Set your games to a lower resolution or switch to medium/low settings for a smoother experience.

Windows Power Settings

  • Ensure that your laptop is set to High Performance mode to prioritize gaming.
  • Solution:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High Performance.

Check for Background Applications

  • Some background applications (e.g., Windows updates, antivirus scans) can affect performance during gaming.
  • Solution:
    • Close unnecessary background apps from the System Tray or Task Manager.

Perform a Clean Boot

  • A clean boot will start Windows with only essential programs, helping identify if third-party apps are causing performance issues.
  • Solution:
    • Search for msconfig, open System Configuration, and under the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services" and then click Disable all.
    • Restart your laptop and test your games again.
