I am trying to upgrade/replace my Samsung 256MB NVME SSD (OEM) in my OMEN By HP Laptop 15-Dc0xxx with a Crucial P5 1TB NVME M.2 SSD. I have cloned the original drive, verified the partitions are the same, but when I put the new drive in the computer does not start up properly. It gets stuck in windows self repair/diagnostics/restarting. When I put the original SSD back in, everything works fine. I have tried Acronis True Image and Macrium Reflect to clone the drive, same result with each of them. Is there something in the Bios or somewhere else that I need to change? Please help!

Hi:
I recommend that you try clean installing W10 on the SSD and see if that makes a difference.
Use the media creation tool to create a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
There should be nothing you need to do if you only installed a larger capacity SSD.

What happened when you tried to clean install W10?
If your notebook has an Intel 10th gen core processor or older, no drivers should be necessary.
I installed a Crucial P5 500 GB in a Dell Optiplex 7050 business desktop PC and I had no issues whatsoever.

same problem...my OMEN goes into self repair/diagnostics/restart as if there is something wrong with the P5 NVME. so the only thing that seems to make sense is if there is some driver/setting not recognizing the P5.

There is a Micron NVMe driver for it but on my PC it randomly causes BSOD's.
When I use the standard Microsoft NVMe driver (which W10 installs by default) I have zero problems.
If you want to try the driver, I have zipped it up and attached it below.
Unzip the file to its folder and copy the folder to a USB flash drive.
When you get to the part of the installation that asks "where do you want to install Windows,' click on the Load Driver option at the bottom of that screen and select the NVMe driver. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.
If that doesn't work, it is possible that you may have gotten a defective SSD.
It should have been as easy to install as you imagined it would be.

Unfortunately, that I wouldn't know.
I can't imagine why the P5 wouldn't work.
My PC only has a 7th gen Intel core processor, so I would have to think the M.2 slot is an older generation than your notebook's M.2 slot, since the 15-dc0xxx model series comes with Intel 8th and 9th gen core processors.
Perhaps you should return the Cruclal drive and go for the Samsung EVO 870.
