Omen 5012
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When upgrading from F.09 to F.23, the ability to control the keyboard backlight colors went away, as discussed by OP.

When checking the available firmware updates, HP Support Advisor showed new firmware and 3 other downloads, as of 30 July. Then, I pressed check for updates, and all the entries disappeared, now HPSA says there are no updates available.

In any event, where can I download the latest firmware, and has this fixed the inability to control the keyboard backlight colors.

Omen control works with Windows 10 with the System Event utility that was released yesterday. See the below thread.

Did you upgrade to Win 10 before updating the BIOS? Was the Control Software working properly then?

I am seeing this aswell but my BIOS was already updated and I upgraded to Windows 10 afterwards.

The support team is aware of this, however, working on getting things fixed. Knowing if it worked for you in Win10 before the BIOS upgrade would be very helpful!

The upgrade of the BIOs from F.09 to F.23A was prior to moving to Win 10.  That this BIOS caused one to lose ability to control the color of the keyboard backlights was discussed by OP at that time.

It doesn't seem to be possible to find any BIOS for the Omen 15 on the support Website, therefore it hasn't been possible to downgrade to the earlier version, or to update to F.24.

The website detects what OS you are on, so searching for it within Win10 will show you only what is qualified for Windows 10.

From the link below, can you change the OS:

The link for BIOS F24a is: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71501.exe

Now, let me run this on my Omen first! This was writin for Win8 and may cause problems running in Windows 10!

Let me be the guinea pig. 🙂

All done.
The BIOS update using the link I posted above worked.

However, please note that there seems to be two issues going on here:

  1. Keyboard lights not Working when Updating the BIOS to F23 (Have not seen this myself.)
  2. Keyboard lights not Working when Updating to Windows 10 (Everyone who has upgraded to Windows 10 is seeing this - A fix is in the works.

That in mind, even after updating the, the keyboard lights will still not work because of an incompatability issue with the light controller and Win10.

You could try going back to WIndows 8 with the new BIOS and reinstalling the Control Centre software, but no amount of tinkering will get it to work in Win10 until we get the Win10 Compatable version out first.

Wish I had better news, but I hope this helps.

That's greart. Thanks to HP for providing a resolution in a quick turn around.

I also replied to another thread about some functions not working after updating but so far everything is working for me.
