Hi @EnoughSpoken13,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

A GPU temperature of 174°F (approximately 79°C) for your HP Victus 15.6 with an RTX 3050 and 16GB RAM is approaching the upper limit of safe operating temperatures, especially under sustained load. While it may not immediately cause damage, it indicates a need for better cooling management. Here are steps to mitigate the overheating:

1. Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure the laptop vents are not blocked by dust, lint, or other debris.
  • Use compressed air to carefully clean the vents and fans.

2. Improve Ventilation:

  • Place the laptop on a flat, hard surface to allow airflow.
  • Avoid using the laptop on beds, couches, or other soft surfaces that block ventilation.

3. Use a Cooling Pad:

  • Invest in a quality laptop cooling pad with fans to help dissipate heat.

4. Monitor GPU Usage:

  • Use software like MSI Afterburner, HWMonitor, or the HP OMEN Gaming Hub to monitor GPU usage and temperature.
  • Check for unnecessary background processes or apps using the GPU and close them.

5. Optimize Graphics Settings:

  • Lower the graphics settings in games or demanding applications to reduce GPU load.
  • Use frame rate caps or enable V-Sync to prevent overworking the GPU.

6. Update Drivers:

-Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

7. Adjust Fan Speed:

  • Use HP OMEN Gaming Hub to manually increase fan speeds for better cooling.

8. Check for Thermal Throttling:

  • If the temperature exceeds safe limits, the GPU will throttle its performance. Use monitoring tools to observe clock speeds and temperatures.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
