@kukin1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message “System Fan (90A/90B) is not operating correctly” typically indicates that the system has detected abnormal behavior from the cooling fan—either it's not spinning at the expected speed or has temporarily stopped. Even if the fan seems to be working now, it's important to ensure the system is not overheating or at risk of future shutdowns.

Clear the Error and Restart

  • If the system boots normally after the error, press Enter to clear the message and continue to Windows.
  • Monitor the fan noise and system temperature during use.

Clean the Air Vents

Perform a Hard Reset

  • This can reset thermal values stored in memory.
  • Steps:
    • Turn off the notebook.
    • Disconnect power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
    • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect power and turn on the notebook.

Update the BIOS

  • A BIOS update may improve fan control and thermal management.
  • Visit HP Software and Driver Downloads and enter your product name.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS version.

Use HP Diagnostics

  • Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tool to test the fan.
  • Restart the PC and press F2 repeatedly during startup.
  • Select Component Tests > Fan.

Monitor with HP Command Center (if available)

  • On supported models, you can adjust thermal profiles.
  • Install from Microsoft Store and set to Quiet Mode.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
