Hi:

Temporarily disconnect the hard drive and the Windows boot manager should automatically switch to the NVMe SSD to boot from.

Notebooks that come with dual drive configurations have no operating system on the 2.5" drive and for whatever reason, the notebook will always boot from the 2.5" drive first and not the NVMe SSD.

The SSD is not going to show up in the Windows boot manager.

When there is no 2.5" hard drive the notebook should have automatically booted up from the SSD.

You have to have a completely clean 2.5" drive with no Windows or boot files on that drive.

If that didn't work, unfortunately I don't have any other suggestions for you to try, because it should have worked.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion Gaming 15 Laptop PC

The service manual has the instructions for removing and replacing the 2.5" drive.

Perhaps there is a way to remove the hard drive without removing that hard to attach cable, even though the manual indicates you need to remove the drive cable.

For example, what if you removed the 3 screws, lifted up the drive and removed the connector from the drive and not the motherboard?

I don't know if that is possible but if it is, then you don't need to struggle with that cable.

Anyway, I would try to get the SSD to work with no drive installed and then connect it back up after you have run the notebook on the SSD for a while.
