Hi @boninay,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the message that your camera is blocked or turned off by a switch or button usually indicates that the camera is disabled either physically or through software settings.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check for a Physical Switch or Button:

  •  laptops have a physical switch or button that disables the camera for privacy reasons. Look around the edges of your laptop for a camera button or switch, often marked with a camera icon or a privacy symbol. If you find one, make sure it is in the "on" position.

2. Check the Camera Privacy Shutter: User Guide

  • Some laptops have a privacy shutter or cover that can be slid over the camera to physically block it. Ensure this shutter is open.

3. Check Keyboard Shortcuts:

  • Many laptops have a keyboard shortcut to disable or enable the camera. This might be a key with a camera icon, usually on one of the function keys (F1-F12). Try pressing this key (often in combination with the Fn key) to toggle the camera on and off.

4. Enable the Camera in Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
  • Make sure the toggle switch under "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned On.
  • Scroll down to ensure that the app you're trying to use has camera access enabled.

5. Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Cameras section or Imaging devices section.
  • Right-click on your camera and select Enable device if it is disabled. If you see an exclamation mark or error symbol, right-click and select Update driver or Uninstall device, then restart your laptop and let Windows reinstall the driver.

6. Update or Reinstall Camera Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your camera and select Update driver.
  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" to let Windows find the latest driver.
  • Alternatively, go to the HP support website, search for your specific model, and download the latest camera driver.

7. Restart Your Laptop:

  • Sometimes, simply restarting your laptop can resolve camera issues. This will refresh all drivers and settings.

8. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available updates, which might include driver updates.

9. Test the Camera:

  • Open the Camera app in Windows to see if it’s working. If it works in this app, the issue might be specific to another app you are using.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
