3 months free Ink trial.

I'm a bit confused.  I'm using a 3 month free trial.  Under USAGE I see "PLAN USE" amount used and "TRIAL" usage.  2 different amounts.  Why would I be using plan pages when the first 3 months are free?  What are they keeping track of and how?  What will happen when my first 3 months free is expired?  The rules say I can cancel anytime and not get charged.

The trial is still based on the plan you chose when you signed up for the subscription.

You are entitled to print for free your number of plan pages during each month of the trial period.

Were you to print more than the number of pages in your selected plan, you would be charged for a "set" of pages to make up the difference between the plan you chose and the number of pages you are actually printing.

In other words if your selected plan entitles you to 15 pages a month, (then) during the trial period you can print 15 pages a month for free.  Printing additional pages kicks in the overage allowance, that is, one or more charged "page sets".

The page set information is perhaps better explained in the contract.

What is the Instant Ink Promotion / Trial ?

The offer is generally for a one month or longer trial to HP Instant Ink subscription service.

To get the trial, you must sign up, select a plan, and commit to the print-by-page subscription model.

An HP Instant Ink subscription is a contact for service - ink is included in that service.

The trial is a suspension of the monthly plan costs during the trial period.

The printer must be connected to the Internet (Web Services) during the Trial and for the duration of the contract.  Connection is used by service to monitor plan usage status and by the printer to request ink.

What is "Free Ink"?

There is no extra cost for ink.

Ink is provided as part of your subscription - use a drop or use a cup full, ink is included at no extra cost.

Important

After the initial Ink Kit is mailed out, ink is sent (only) when the printer notifies the service that ink is depleted and a shipment is needed.

• All ink activated by the plan and all ink sent to you works as along as the trail / service is active.

and

• Subscription / Instant Ink remains the property of HP and should be returned to HP at close (termination) of the service contract.

Who Benefits?

Instant Ink is an excellent service for those who print regularly, print high-density documents or artwork, or perhaps print lots of homework.  For example, those who benefit the most include Teachers, musicians, writers who like hard copy, large families, small business offices, community centers, churches, and others who love -- or need -- to print on paper.
