I've brought a hp Deskjet 2710e, and on the box and a leaflet inside it says I can claim 6 months free instant ink however I can't find how to claim this anywhere. When signing up online it offers the 3 months, but nowhere mentions the 6 months.
Is there a specific code I need for this? There isn't one anywhere either

Once enrolled, the free months will automatically be credited to your Instant Ink account.

Have you opted for the HP+ service (that is) required to qualify for the extended Instant Ink Trial?
Generally, the documents do a better job explaining this...
Here goes...
There are requirements associated with an Instant Ink subscription .
What is Instant Ink?
Instant Ink is a Print-by-Page subscription model that provides as much ink as needed for the selected "page" plan.
Which plan? Information is available at the Instant Ink Website for your region.
HP+ is related to Instant Ink in the sense that signing up for HP+ provides for an Extended Trial period of the Instant Ink subscription plan,
The subscription (or Trial) to Instant Ink is NOT mandatory to sign up for HP+.
(but...)
Signing up for HP+ is required to qualify for the extended Trial to the Instant Ink subscription.

HP+ - What is it?
There are limitations, benefits, responsibilities when you choose HP+ service.
For example, at this writing, HP+:
- HP+ includes an extended (longer) Warranty on your printer
- Requires that you always use HP genuine ink cartridges in the printer - Again, this is not "Instant Ink" - the requirement is that you use HP branded ink
- The printer must be connected to the Internet to allow monitoring by the HP+ Service
- HP+ service includes Concierge Service - with extra setup help and assistance
