Hi @Tudor7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your apps not opening on your Windows system. Here are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this:
1. Restart Your Computer
- A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches. Try restarting your laptop or desktop.
2. Check Task Manager
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Look for any instances of the apps that won’t open in the Processes tab. If you find them, right-click and select End Task. Then, try reopening the apps.
3. Check for Multiple Displays
- If you have multiple displays connected, it’s possible the app is opening off-screen.
- Press Windows + P and select PC screen only to see if that brings your apps back to your main display.
4. Update Windows
- Make sure your system is fully updated:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
5. Run System File Checker
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator:
- Type cmd in the Start menu, right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
- Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Wait for the scan to complete and fix any found issues.
6. Create a New User Profile
- Sometimes user profiles can become corrupted. Try creating a new user account:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
- Click on Add someone else to this PC and create a new user.
- Log into the new account and check if the apps work there.
7. Check Graphics Drivers
- Outdated or corrupt graphics drivers can cause display issues:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, right-click on your graphics card, and select Update driver.
8. Perform a Clean Boot
- A clean boot can help identify if background services are causing the issue:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
- Restart your computer and see if the issue persists.
9. System Restore
- If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert to a previous state:
- Type System Restore in the Windows search bar and follow the prompts.
10. Reset Windows
- If none of the above solutions work, you may consider resetting Windows:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select Get started under Reset this PC. Choose to keep your files if possible.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
