Hi @Tudor7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your apps not opening on your Windows system. Here are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this:

1. Restart Your Computer

  • A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches. Try restarting your laptop or desktop.

2. Check Task Manager

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Look for any instances of the apps that won’t open in the Processes tab. If you find them, right-click and select End Task. Then, try reopening the apps.

3. Check for Multiple Displays

  • If you have multiple displays connected, it’s possible the app is opening off-screen.
  • Press Windows + P and select PC screen only to see if that brings your apps back to your main display.

4. Update Windows

  • Make sure your system is fully updated:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

5. Run System File Checker

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator:
    1. Type cmd in the Start menu, right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
    2. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Wait for the scan to complete and fix any found issues.

6. Create a New User Profile

  • Sometimes user profiles can become corrupted. Try creating a new user account:
    1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
    2. Click on Add someone else to this PC and create a new user.
    3. Log into the new account and check if the apps work there.

7. Check Graphics Drivers

  • Outdated or corrupt graphics drivers can cause display issues:
    1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Display adapters, right-click on your graphics card, and select Update driver.

8. Perform a Clean Boot

  • A clean boot can help identify if background services are causing the issue:
    1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
    3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
    4. Restart your computer and see if the issue persists.

9. System Restore

  • If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert to a previous state:
    1. Type System Restore in the Windows search bar and follow the prompts.

10. Reset Windows

  • If none of the above solutions work, you may consider resetting Windows:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select Get started under Reset this PC. Choose to keep your files if possible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
