HP envy 6020

I have a quite new Envy 6020, was working fine then suddenly not printing black, save for the print info page where black prints perfectly fine.  Every other test page or alignment page won’t print black though.  Have tried clean process, turning off and on and checking cartridge although ink levels are ok.

Hi @Alli44,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already taken some basic troubleshooting steps, but there are a few more things you can try to resolve the issue with your HP Envy 6020 not printing black.

  • Check Ink Cartridge: Even if the ink levels appear to be okay, sometimes there might be an issue with the cartridge itself. Try removing the black ink cartridge and inspect it for any visible damage or clogs. You can also try gently cleaning the cartridge nozzles with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Run Deep Cleaning: Many printers have a deep cleaning function that can help clear any clogs in the print head. Check your printer's manual for instructions on how to run a deep cleaning cycle. This process may take a bit longer than a regular cleaning cycle.
  • Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer settings are configured correctly to allow black ink printing. Sometimes, settings related to grayscale or color printing can inadvertently prevent black ink from being used. Check both the printer settings on your computer and the settings on the printer itself.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause printing issues. You can usually download the latest drivers from the HP website or through the HP Smart app.
  • Perform a Print Head Alignment: Sometimes, a misaligned print head can cause issues with black ink printing. Check your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a print head alignment. This process ensures that the print head is properly aligned for optimal printing quality.
  • Reset Printer: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you can try resetting your printer to its factory settings. This can sometimes help clear any software glitches or errors that may be causing the problem. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.

If you've tried all of these steps and are still experiencing issues with black ink printing, it's possible that there may be a more serious hardware problem with your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
