HP Envy 6555e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I installed a black Instant Ink cartridge, but it is not being recognized. I turned the computer and printer off several times and used the cleaning feature to clean the cartridge to no avail. Can someone give some advice, please?

Hi @Kvc67,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

  1. Check Cartridge Compatibility:
    • Ensure that the cartridge you are using is an original HP Instant Ink cartridge specifically designed for the HP Envy 6555e.
    • Confirm that the cartridge is correctly enrolled in your Instant Ink subscription.
  2. Remove and Reinsert the Cartridge:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Open the printer’s access door and gently remove the black Instant Ink cartridge.
    • Clean the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
    • Reinsert the cartridge firmly into its slot. Make sure it clicks into place properly.
    • Close the access door, plug the printer back in, and turn it on.
  3. Update Printer Firmware:
    • Visit the HP Support page to check for the latest firmware updates for the HP Envy 6555e.
    • Download and install any available updates.
  4. Perform a Printer Reset:
    • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect it to the printer.
    • Turn the printer on.
  5. Verify Printer Settings:
    • Open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
    • Check for any error messages or notifications related to the cartridge.
    • Ensure that the Instant Ink service is active and correctly configured.
  6. Clean Cartridge and Printer Contacts:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Open the access door and remove the black Instant Ink cartridge.
    • Using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water, clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer where the cartridge sits.
    • Allow the contacts to dry completely.
    • Reinsert the cartridge, ensuring it matches the correct slot, and close the access door.

I hope this helps.
