HP ENVY 5542 All-in-One Printer

My black cartridge doesnt get recognised. My printer says to install it again, which Ive tried numerous times already. Obviously, I've also tried rebooting everything multiple times. The cartridge also doesnt appear to be clogged.

Any help?

Hi @Envy5542,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is not recognizing the black ink cartridge, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check the Cartridge: Firstly, ensure that the black ink cartridge is correctly installed in the printer and that it is not empty. If the cartridge is empty, replace it with a new one.
  • Clean the Cartridge: If the cartridge is not empty, try cleaning the contacts on the cartridge with a soft, lint-free cloth. This will remove any dust or debris that may be preventing the printer from recognizing the cartridge.
  • Restart the Printer: Restarting the printer can sometimes fix the issue. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on again.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer and install them. This could potentially fix the issue.
  • Reset the Printer: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. Consult the printer manual to learn how to do this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
