HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My blue ink has been running low for a while but last night everything was just pink or yellow. The printer had not told me to change it.

I've tried all the virtual assistant steps and a factory reset and still there is no blue on anything I print include test prints, clean printheads and clean smear.

Can anyone offer any other solutions - printer is just under 3 years old and I'd rather not buy a new one if the issue can be fixed.

Hi @Kazt2006,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with color printing issues on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e printer. Here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the blue ink cartridge is properly installed and has sufficient ink. Even if HP Smart shows it as full, sometimes there can be issues with the cartridge not dispensing ink correctly.

Clean Printhead Manually: Sometimes, automated printhead cleaning may not be sufficient. You can try manually cleaning the printhead. Here’s how:

  • Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  • Locate the printhead (usually beneath where the cartridges sit).
  • Moisten a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
  • Gently wipe the printhead to remove any dried ink or debris.
  • Allow the printhead to dry completely.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges and try printing again.

Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can sometimes fix bugs related to ink management and printing.

Run Advanced Print Quality Diagnostic: Your printer might have an option for advanced print quality diagnostics or calibration. Look for this in the printer settings through HP Smart or the printer's control panel.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Sometimes, third-party or refilled cartridges may cause issues with print quality or detection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks. I'd already followed a lot of these steps to no effect. Frustratingly the printer is less than 3 years and out of warranty so I've bought a new printer - same model - which better value that paying for a HP repair.
