Hi @rachel8888,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer's ink cartridges are stuck and won't move to the center for removal, there are a few things you can try to safely resolve the issue:

1. Turn Off and Unplug the Printer

  • Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. This will ensure your safety and prevent any damage to the printer.
  • Wait a Moment: Wait for a few seconds to ensure that all internal processes have stopped.

2. Manually Move the Print Head

  • Access the Carriage: Open the printer cover or ink cartridge access door. This should normally trigger the printer to move the cartridge carriage to the center. However, since the cartridges are stuck, you might need to move them manually.
  • Gently Move the Carriage: With the printer turned off and unplugged, gently try to move the cartridge carriage towards the center. Do this slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the printer's mechanisms.

3. Check for Obstructions

  • Inspect for Debris: Check the printer interior for any paper jams, debris, or other obstructions that might be preventing the carriage from moving.
  • Remove Any Obstacles: If you find any obstacles, carefully remove them to free the carriage.

4. Use a Power Cycle to Reset the Printer

  • Plug In and Power On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Sometimes, cycling the power can reset the printer and allow the carriage to move freely.
  • Wait for the Carriage to Move: If the carriage does not move to the center on its own, repeat the process of turning the printer off, unplugging it, and manually moving the carriage.

5. Check Printer Settings and Error Codes

  • Check Error Messages: Refer to your printer's user manual or online resources to understand the specific error code displayed. Some error codes may indicate specific actions needed to resolve the issue.
  • Use Printer Software: If your printer has a connected device with software or an app, check for any maintenance or troubleshooting options that might help resolve the issue.

6. Consult the Printer Manual

  • User Manual: Consult the printer’s user manual for specific instructions on removing cartridges or dealing with stuck cartridges. The manual may provide model-specific guidance

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so so much for your help with my problem.  I was able to get the cartridges to move, but they keep going back to the right side and staying there.  I have turned the printer on and off several times, checked everything several times, but with no luck.  Just wont print as they cartridges stay on the right side.  Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I am lost without my printer.

Thank you very much for all of your help.
