HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Cartridge (black) is not communicating correctly with the printer.  I have installed a new cartridge, same error.  I have reset the printer as recommended in other post; I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and software; I have checked all software for updates.  Nothing has worked.  I am using HP Instant Ink 64/303 cartridges.  Any other suggestions before I junk it and buy a different brand?

It sounds like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps without success. Before you give up on your HP ENVY Photo 7855 printer, here are a few more suggestions that could help resolve the issue:

1. Check the Cartridge Contacts

Sometimes, the issue is as simple as dirty or misaligned contacts between the cartridge and the printer. Carefully remove the black ink cartridge and inspect the metal contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.

Clean the contacts: Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab with a little bit of water to gently clean the metal contacts on both the cartridge and the printer. Be sure to dry everything thoroughly before reinstalling the cartridge.

2. Reset Printer Settings to Default

On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Network Defaults. If this doesn’t work, try navigating through the menu to find a “Factory Reset” or “Reset All Settings” option.

Note: This will reset any customized settings, so you may need to reconfigure some preferences like Wi-Fi.

3. Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):
