I have exactly the same problem. Managed to print great in single mode cartridge earlier.  I have tried to fix the problem with the advice twice over even the cleaning with lint free cloth and distilled water twice.

I cannot get new cartridges until the problem is solved!!! makes me angry that I pay monthly for the service of new ink and printing!!!

I am having the same issue and my printer is barely over a year old. Just paid $46 for a new cartridge after waiting over a month for HP to send a replacement that still hasn't arrived. No way to contact HP for assistance besides these forums and the virtual agent who won't help me because my warranty is expired. This is truly frustrating.

I have the same problem and it appears that I will not be purchasing anymore HP printer products since HP could not fix the problem.  It appears that the HP printers are disposable after two years.  That is unfortunate because they are so expensive.   Please let me know if you ever resolved your issue or just bought another printer so that I don't waste my time.  Also, please let me know if you choose another different type of printer.  I use my for travel and it has been a life saver.  It just too bad it stopped working.

Reading all the posts for the Cartridge Problem seems there might be issues with the black cartridge. I have the same issue. 

 

Was printing fine this month then got a message that black cartridge was low. I received a new black cartridge a month ago or so. Installed the new black cartridge and immediately got the Cartridge Problem error. Tried all the steps mentioned. Also pulled out all other cartridges and reinstalled. Ran the printer diagnostics (HPA3E0EE HP OfficeJet Pro 8610) and it now shows an 'X' for all cartridges. I'm dead in the water. 

 

What's up with the Cartridge Problem and the black cartridges?

Hi Ken, I have had to start printing in single cartridge mode and at least that's getting me by until I choose to purchase another printer. HP Support was no help with this matter, only sending additional black cartridges that have not solved the issue. If you remove the black cartridge entirely it can print with just the color cartridge and still print black just fine. Hope that helps, and I agree it is incredibly frustrating that such an enormous issue can arise in HP printers barely a year after purchase.
