I'm trying to connect our HP OfficeJet Pro 9130e (Product No.: 404M5B, Serial No.:
>Do not include the product serial number or any private information<.
) to the HP app (on both Android and iOS). The PIN printed on the printer cover is rejected by the app; two of my colleagues were also unable to enter it when they tried to connect the printer in the app they installed on their phones.
- The printer is connected to the network via ethernet.
- The printer can be found by the HP app.
- Only registering to the printer fails , the app complains about a wrong PIN and asks to try again.
- Restarting the printer did not help.
This makes it impossible for me to use our Instant Ink subscription.

Solution
For everyone else having this problem.
I my case the problem was
- I had already logged into the printer's webserver and changed the password there (to something that is not 8-numeric-digits).
- This new password seems to have overridden the PIN for the app also.
- The app is too stupid and does not recognize this possibility, that's why it still asked for the hard-coded PIN.
How to solve the problem
- Log into the printer vie the webserver.
- Change the password to the stupid 8-digit PIN, and save.
Result
Now the app can connect to the printer. The 8-digit PIN is accepted, likely because it is now the same as the password.

Hi @is_2026
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
I understand how bad it must be that the HP App is detecting your HP OfficeJet Pro 9130e, but the printer PIN is not being accepted, preventing you from registering the printer and using your Instant Ink subscription. I'll be happy to help you troubleshoot this issue and work with you to get the printer successfully connected.
Could you please share the exact error message displayed in the HP App, along with a photo of the screen showing where you obtained the printer PIN? This will help me better understand the issue and assist you more effectively.
