HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer

Printer has suddenly stopped printing on both sides of the page. The first page printed is in the position to feed back for side 2, but a new page is printed. I tried restarting the printer and rebooting the computer. All printer settings are for two-sided printing. I've checked for updates but none show. Currently, I am on an ink subscription.

Hi @MMMESS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 has suddenly stopped printing double-sided, even though the settings are correct and the first page feeds back for the second side but prints a new page instead. Let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot this.

Check Print Settings in Windows

Open the document you want to print.

Press Ctrl + P > select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 > click Printer Properties or Preferences.

Make sure Two-sided (Duplex) Printing is enabled and that the correct flip on long edge or flip on short edge option is selected.

Check Print Settings in the App

Some apps (Word, Adobe Reader, etc.) have their own print settings.

Ensure two-sided printing is enabled in both the app and printer properties.

Restart the Printer and Clear the Print Queue

Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord for 30 seconds.

Restart the printer.

On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and select See what’s printing.

Cancel all pending print jobs.

Check for Paper Type and Size

Ensure you are using paper supported by two-sided printing (plain, standard size).

Heavy cardstock or specialty papers may prevent duplex printing.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s website.

It can detect and fix duplex printing issues automatically.

Check Firmware Updates

Even if Windows shows no updates, check directly on the printer: Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.

Installing the latest firmware can resolve duplex feed issues.

Test a Print From Another Device

Try printing a double-sided document from another computer or the HP Smart app.

This helps determine if the issue is with the printer or the original computer/app.

I hope this helps.
