I've had my printer for a few months and I've had 3 Instant Ink cartridges explode with ink while unwrapping (pulling back the plastic orange pull tab). I've been very careful to no avail. Are these cartridges defective? I'm getting very frustrated. Not only does this delay my printing (until I receive another one) but the ink has quite literally exploded all over my hands and clothes. I've also had to take the time to reach out to customer service for a replacement. What's the deal with these cartridges??

@Robynbt, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I apologize for the inconvenience. It is rather surprising that the Instant Ink cartridges are exploding while pulling out the orange tab. I have not come across any other customer facing this issue.
For assistance with replacing the ink cartridge, refer to - Replace HP inkjet printer cartridges

I just had exactly this same problem, same type of ink cartridge. Ink all over... First instant ink cartridge opened for this new printer...
Ink exploded out of this place with the up arrow as I gently pulled off the orange strip that said PULL...
I live at high altitude (Denver, CO)... is it possible that low pressure at this altitude is an issue for these cartridges?
It's stopped oozing out.. can I still use this cartridge?

Yes, it could be because of the environmental conditions. If there is no ink leak from the cartridge, you may insert it into the printer to check its functionality.
Let me know how it goes.
