My printer wont print. The ink light is flashing altho I printed an info page & there is lots of ink. At one point it said an unauthorised cartridge was installed (not true). It had been printing fine & stopped one page short of finishing a job. Now it is not possible to turn the printer off, except by unplugging. I have tried resetting by holding two buttons down. I have taken out the cartridges & cleaned them, several times .Following HP online support,  I have tried resetting the printer on my computer, but now I cannot re-install the printer. The computer says the printer is not available. Any advice would be most welcome !

Follow the steps below to isolate and resolve the issue-

 

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

 

Also, perform the steps from the document Blinking Lights.

Thank you for your reply. I downloaded the firmware update but the Device Discovery cannot find the printer & I dont know how to enter the address manually, so have got no further.

The site just sends me in circles, virtual assistant, common problems resolved etc. I need an actual person to tell me what to do, as mine is clearly not a common problem.  Is it the case that, as the warranty has expired, I cannot get actual help & must throw out the printer ?

If the warranty is expired, replacing the printer is the only option.

Thank you for your reply but I am extremely disappointed. If it was actually broken, it would be a different matter. The printer works fine & I can print out the perfect Info sheet. The problem lies in the laptop recognising the printer, while updating the firmware ... a small problem for someone more techy than me ! I have probably printed about 50 sheets of paper in total, from new,  & to be told now to throw it away is infuriating. Built-in obsolescence !  HP has always been my go-to brand , but not any longer.
