I cancelled Instant Ink because I just don't print enough. When you buy the printer, HP implies you can get free ink for 6 months. However, now that I know they are going to disable the ink, it's not really free is it? They are going to make you buy new cartridges elsewhere even though there's plenty of ink left in the current ones. The reason---that's how they control you. You aren't buying their expensive subscription anymore so they will control your ability to print. That is what I call dictatorship. Now that I know this is how they do business, I will never buy another HP printer.

Hi @BREYN1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand your concern and truly appreciate your feedback regarding Instant Ink and your HP OfficeJet 8015e experience.

To clarify how the program works:

  • When you enroll in HP Instant Ink, the printer uses special Instant Ink cartridges that are activated and managed through your subscription.

  • These cartridges remain the property of HP and are designed to stop working once the subscription ends, even if there is ink left. This is why your printer prompts you to replace them after cancellation.

  • The 6 months of free printing are a promotional trial during this period; HP covers the cost of ink, shipping, and recycling. After the trial, you can choose to continue with a paid plan or cancel at any time.

  • If you cancel, you simply need to install standard HP cartridges (purchased separately) to continue printing normally.

We’re sorry if this wasn’t clear upfront. Your feedback is important, and we’ll share it with the Instant Ink team so we can improve how this information is communicated.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I still say it's all about control. I will gladly buy my own. As I said before, will never buy another HP.
