HP ENVY 4527 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have not used my printer in a long while due to having to cancel my instant ink for financial reasons. I have just renewed and tried to print but the black won't print at all and the colours are all very faint. Could it be the ink has dried somewhere? The gauges show there is ink in the cartridges and I have run the normal clean and extended clean several times but made no difference. There also does not appear to be any way to request urgent shipment of new cartridges to confirm if the cartridges are now faulty or unusable. Does anyone else have any other cleaning options or something I can do to get the printer working again?

Hi @MJGardener,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand that you are facing issues with black and colored cartridges. I'd like to help!

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes to the printer before the issue started?

Have you tried to clean the ink cartridge contacts?

In the meantime, I would suggest you follow the steps suggested in the support document for HP Printers - Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues click here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Sorry for the late response. In answer to your reply nothing had changed with the printer other than it had not been used at all for several months. I had tried all the cleaning operations multiple times, reinstalled the driver, removed the internet settings and reconfigured it etc. but none of those worked. I hadn't touched any of the contacts on the cartridge and had not tried to clean anything within the printer itself. The cartridges were both HP originals, originally supplied under my Instant Ink subscription.

Thankfully my welcome pack arrived for re-subscribing to the Instant Ink service in the last couple of days and I replaced the black cartridge with the new one and it immediately was printing fine.

So although the old black cartridge was still showing as almost half full when I replaced it I am still none the wiser as to why it would not print anything. I would also raise the concern that there does not appear to be any way I found to get a replacement cartridge sent if the cartridge is indicating that it does not need to be replaced. I was just lucky the welcome pack arrived.

Hi @MJGardener,

Thanks for your reply. Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting, and terrific observations made. Kudos to you for that. :slightly_smiling_face:

And great to know that you also got the new shipment and hope that helps. Do keep me posted if anything. Thanks
