I am unable to print anything with my HP ENVY 5540 displaying the error "Remove and reinstall the indicated ink cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed".

 

I've followed the detailed recommendations outlined by HP support on this issue without success.

 

I am subscribed to HP Instant Ink, so I only ever use genuine HP ink cartridges in the printer.

 

I am fairly sure the colour cartridge I have may be faulty. 

 

I cannot find a way of directly contacting someone at HP, so I would be very grateful if an HP representative could reply to this thread so that I can get a replacement colour cartridge for the printer.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I completely understand how frustrating this is, especially when you’ve followed all the official steps and still can’t print. Since you’re enrolled in HP Instant Ink and using genuine cartridges, HP will replace a defective cartridge at no cost.

Here’s what you should do:

1. Confirm Cartridge Issue

  • If the error persists after reseating and cleaning contacts, and you’ve tried another cartridge (or don’t have one), it’s likely defective.
  • HP Instant Ink covers this scenario.
     

Please help us with the Instant Ink ID or Email ID or Printer serial number, or the product number in a private message for further assistance.
