I got this printer for free from someone.
She let me know it wasn’t printing color.
I signed up for the HP Ink subscription with the paper and ink cartridges. I got my first shipment and replaced all the ink cartridges with the brand new ones.
I got it to print color, but the first page I printed it had blue letters and it got printed out in light pink and it had a smudge of blue on the end letter.
I have tried everything I have found on the HP support pages and even tried the alignment page, as well as the cleaning through the printer maintenance. And I even tried taking the cartridge out checked the blue was coming out and even reset the printer. I even tried to copy a paper that had blue on it and it came out yellow and pink.
it still won’t print blue and I can’t figure it out.

@JayMama0612, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 is experiencing issues with cyan (blue) ink. Since you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, let's explore a few more options to help resolve the problem:
Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report
- Access the printer’s control panel and navigate to Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report.
- Examine the color blocks. If cyan is missing or faded, this indicates a problem with the cyan ink flow.
Run Additional Printhead Cleanings
- Sometimes, one cleaning cycle isn't sufficient. Run the cleaning process two or three times:
- Go to Printer Menu > Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
- If you see improvement but not complete restoration, repeat the cleaning process.
Check the Cyan Cartridge & Ink Flow
- Inspect the cyan cartridge:
- Remove it and check the vent on the top (a small plastic strip). If it's clogged, gently clean it with a pin.
- Shake the cartridge slightly to redistribute the ink and reinsert it securely.
- If you have another cyan cartridge available, try swapping it out.
Print a Color Copy (Bypassing the Computer)
- Place a color test image (with blue) on the scanner glass.
- Use the printer’s Copy function (press Copy on the control panel).
- If the copy shows the same issue (missing blue), the problem lies with the printhead or ink flow, not the software.
Reset the Printer
Perform a full reset:
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes.
- Reconnect the power and turn the printer back on.
- Try printing again.
Check for Firmware Updates
Firmware updates can sometimes resolve ink flow issues:
- Use the HP Smart App to navigate to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Printer Update.
- If an update is available, install it and test printing again.
Print a Test Page from Chrome OS
- Open the CUPS printer settings by entering chrome://devices in your browser.
- Find your printer, click on Manage, and print a test page.
- If blue is still missing, this indicates it's not a software issue.
Manual Printhead Cleaning (Last Resort)
If all else fails, the cyan nozzle may be clogged. You can try manually cleaning the printhead:
- Remove the cartridges.
- Dab a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with warm distilled water on the printhead.
- Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then reinstall the cartridges.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
