HP Envy 6120e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have a HP Envy 6100e All-in-One Printer which will not print. It says "there is an issue with either the installed cartridges or your account payment method".  I am using original HP ink cartridges purchased from a store and I do not have an instant ink account or subscription, so no "payment method" attached to this printer.  To try and solve I have:

1) Taken cartridges out and put back in

2) Cleaned cartridges

3) Turned off, turned on

4) Unplugged, plugged back in

Please can someone help as it won't let me print!

Hi @Steve6782,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Envy 6100e All-in-One Printer is displaying a message that indicates an issue with the installed cartridges or payment method. Despite not having a subscription to Instant Ink, you can follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Steps to Check and Resolve Cartridge and Payment Mismatch Issues:

Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges compatible with your printer model. Double-check the cartridge numbers against those suggested for your printer model. Which cartridges work with my HP printer? | HP® Support.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • Power off the printer and restart it.
  • Reinsert the cartridges and confirm they are securely installed.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Dust or debris on cartridge contacts can cause errors. Gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and within the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab. Make sure the printer is powered off while doing this.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about one minute, plug it back in, and then turn it back on.
  • This can help reset any temporary errors.

Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model as updates often contain fixes for common errors. You can typically update the firmware through the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support.

Check Printer Setup: Ensure that the setup steps, including connecting to a proper network, are completed. Also, verify settings in the printer administration menu if applicable.

Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS) Reset: Try performing a "Secure Erase" or "Restore Factory Defaults" from the printer's Embedded Web Server settings. Follow the guidance to access EWS by entering the printer's IP address in your web browser.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
