Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Instant Ink. Check out this link: HP INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER. .

After years of printing and being connected to HP Instant Ink the printer is telling me I need to connect to HP Instant Ink soon or I will be blocked. I cannot connect via the printer or via the website.

I have tried everything from resetting the printer and the router. Factory resetting the printer and reconnecting.

I have logged into the router to ensure that the printer is connected correctly to 2.4ghz etc etc

Nothing works, could this be a fault with the printer?

Hi @SunnyB76 ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

It is very frustrating when a reliable setup suddenly fails after years of service. This "blocked" message usually indicates that while your printer is physically connected to your Wi-Fi, the internal "Web Services" certificate has expired or become corrupted, preventing the printer from talking to the HP Instant Ink servers to verify your subscription.

  1. Remove the existing Web Services connection to clear the "Blocked" status.
    • On the printer control panel, touch the HP ePrint icon or go to the Web Services Setup menu.
    • Select Remove Web Services or Turn Off Web Services and confirm the deletion.
    • Restart the printer and wait for it to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network automatically.
  2. Re-enable Web Services to generate a new Claim Code.
    • Return to the Web Services Setup menu on the printer screen and select Setup or Continue.
    • Accept the terms of service to allow the printer to communicate with the HP servers again.
    • Wait for the printer to automatically print an Information Page which contains a unique, alphanumeric Claim Code.
  3. Re-link the printer to your Instant Ink account via the dashboard.
    • Log in to your HP Instant Ink account on a computer or mobile device.
    • Look for a button that says Add a Printer or Replace Printer and enter the Claim Code from the printed Information Page.
    • Follow the prompts to sync your current subscription to the "new" instance of your printer to clear the blocked message immediately.

The Resource: For more specific steps on this process, see the official HP printers - Turning off Web Services guide.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Hi, Thanks for your message.

I have done all of these procedures several times and I get the message 'The Printer Cannot Run The Web Access Test'. I am unable to 'Add Printer' in the App.

Today I went down the road to a friends house to use their HP printer and exactly the same thing is happening. This cannot be a coincidence!

Can you help me further, I am in the UK and it would seem there is a problem connecting to your service all of a sudden.

Hi @SunnyB76,

Thank you for the response.

Let’s go through a few more checks.

Check Date and Time on Printer

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Preferences.
  2. Locate Date & Time.
  3. Ensure it is set correctly (or enable auto-sync if available).
  4. Restart the printer after updating.

Note: Incorrect date/time can block Web Services connection.

Update Printer Firmware

  1. Open the HP app on your device.
  2. Select your printer.
  3. Go to Advanced Settings (EWS) or Printer Settings.
  4. Check for Firmware Update and install if available.
  5. Restart the printer after update.

Restore Network Defaults and Reconnect

  1. On the printer, go to Wireless Settings.
  2. Select Restore Network Settings.
  3. Reconnect to your Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz is fine as you already checked).
  4. Once connected, try enabling Web Services again.

Check Network Restrictions

Since the same issue occurred on another printer:

  1. Try connecting the printer to a mobile hotspot (phone internet).
  2. Enable Web Services again.
  3. Check if the Web Services test completes successfully.

Note: If it works on hotspot, the issue is likely related to the network or ISP blocking certain services.

Access Embedded Web Server (EWS) Directly

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page to get the printer IP address.
  2. Enter the IP address in a web browser.
  3. Go to Web Services tab.
  4. Click Remove Web Services, then Enable Web Services again.

If Web Services still fails with “Cannot Run Web Access Test” even on a different network, note whether the hotspot test works — that will confirm if this is network-related or service-side.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
