HP Instant Ink asks me to exchange hardly used inktanks, because they do not belong to the program, because they are part of the initial setup and the printer use is minor. Should I simply ignore this claim?

Hi @Fred05071947,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

The message you're seeing is related to how the HP Instant Ink program works. When you enroll in Instant Ink, the service requires you to use special Instant Ink cartridges to monitor your usage and manage ink delivery. The setup cartridges that come with your printer are not part of the Instant Ink program, even if they still have ink remaining.

Here are your options:

1. Switch to Instant Ink Cartridges

  • Replace the setup cartridges with the Instant Ink cartridges provided when you enrolled in the program. This ensures you're compliant with the Instant Ink program, and HP will monitor ink levels and send replacements as needed.
  • Instant Ink cartridges typically contain more ink than standard cartridges and may last longer.

2. Use Setup Cartridges Until They Run Out

  • If your printing needs are minimal, you can continue using the setup cartridges until they're empty. Just keep in mind that any pages printed with these cartridges won’t count towards your Instant Ink subscription.

3. Ignore the Claim

  • If you're satisfied with the current setup and prefer not to swap the cartridges, you can ignore the notification temporarily. However, Instant Ink won't provide replacements until you're using Instant Ink cartridges.

  • HP's Monitoring System: HP tracks Instant Ink cartridges to optimize delivery. If you don't use Instant Ink cartridges, the system won't recognize your printer's ink usage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day
