Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everyone, I'm having issues connecting to the HP Instant Ink service and am having an intermittent internet connection from the printer to the internet. This led me to try to update the firmware. However, when I tried to use the .exe it said that my printer was " Not Applicable." I then tried to update over USB using the commands: CD %USERPROFILE\DESKTOP  and copy /b 6500A.FUL \\PC\6500A from this post (I did change the user profile, file name, and PC name to match my situation), https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-OJ-6500-firmware-update-Not-applicab... , and command prompt is saying "The network name cannot be found" even though I am trying to update over USB. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

It appears you are trying to install the firmware from an Officejet 6500 but your printer is an Officejet Pro 8610?   If your printer is an Officejet Pro 8610 the firmware update can be found from HP here.

If you have some other printer model please provide details. What printer model

No, I was trying to install the 8610's firmware, the 6500 code was just the format.

The "copy /b 6500A.FUL \\PC\6500A" indicates a network connection for \\PC\6500A.  Even if this were replaced with the proper PC and printer names the "\\PC\Printername" part indicates a network connection.

One thing to check - what is your current firmware version?  The last firmware update for the Officejet Pro 8610 is version 1910A released in Jan 2021.  You can find the firmware version as follows:  from the front panel scroll to see the items on the right, Setup, scroll down to Reports, and select it.  This will print a report page, the firmware version is item 7.  It may also be interesting to review the connectivity settings in items 15-19.

[Edit] If the firmware version is not 1910A it may be helpful to temporarily attach the printer with a wired cat5 cable to your router if the issue is related to WiFi connectivity.

The firmware number is much longer, it is FDP1CN2022AR and the copyright at the bottom of the embedded web server says, "2004-2014" so I'm assuming that the firmware is out of date. Also, I forgot to mention that these problems are occurring after upgrading my home router to a Verizon gigabit router and that's why I think updating the firmware would fix it given how much newer the router is.

The firmware you have installed (2022A) is more recent than the version on the HP Support site (1910A).   The 1910A version was released on January 26, 2021.   Likely the 2022A version was delivered over the internet.

The embedded web server is seldom updated, it is not surprising it has a rather old date.

Okay, thanks for the info. Since the firmware is up to date what do you think could be causing the no internet message when "Web Services" is clicked on but the printer still being able to printer normally over the internet?
