Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER

I created a support ticket [Personal Information Removed] because I needed some details regarding Instant ink. The case is ignored for 2 months. No update since day 1.

There is an option to "Contact HP" at the ticket page but after clicking it I get only empty page with 404 error on the header (in browser's tab title), tried 2 browsers, disabled adblockers.

Now my question here, because I don't trust the support any more.

I bought new HP laser m234 printer which offered 6-month Instant ink subscription for free. So I subscribed. They IMMEDIATELY sent additional cartridge to me, while of course I am printing off my new cartridge that was in the new printer.  As far as I understand, this starting cartridge was "converted" to Instant ink cartridge, so after it gets depleted, I should change it for the new one which arrived separately after having subscribed to this service. This is certainly not going to happen in next 6 months so I don't understand why (the f) they send the cartridge when I have a new one. Now I have a big pack here waiting possibly for years until I open it.

Next thing is that I found I don't like the print quality (text jaggy, like from a dot matrix printer if I overexaggerate it) and scan quality is really bad (overfiltered with some despeckle or NR filter that cannot be disabled, colors are washed out) and I lost trust in HP's support so I decided to sell the printer.

Unsubscribing from Instant ink is possible, but there is no mention what to do with the cartridge I received.

  • My initial cartridge has been converted to Instant ink cartridge. When unsubscribing, I am told that "instant ink cartridges will stop working". - What about my initial cartridge I bought with the printer? Will it be disabled or will it be reverted back to regular non instant ink cartridge?
  • Why does HP charge 2€ at the end of the free subscription?
  • Will the buyer of this printer be able to subscribe to Instant ink the same way (6 free months) or will he not receive these 6 free months?
  • Will the buyer of this printer, in case they subscribe to Instant ink, be able to use the initial cartridge again as Instant ink cartridge? (so it's converted again to instant ink)
  • Why does HP send new cartridge immediately upon subscribing while they also convert existing cartridge? Can't they just convert the existing cartridge to Instant ink and send another only when the existing one is low on toner? Now I have additional overhead to order recycling pack and send the (unopened) additional cartridge back.
  • I want to sell the printer in a week but if I unsubscribe, the billing period ends in 3 weeks. Will I have to wait and sell the printer only after the billing period has ended?

Hi @franec,

I'd like to help!

I understand you have queries about the instant ink service

Below are the answers to your query-

  1. The cartridges that go with the printer are instant ink ready cartridges once you enroll them in the service, they are instant ink cartridges that cannot be used after the cancellation
  2.  The Charge was a signup charge, it is not for the plan
  3. The 6 free months is only for the initial instant ink setup, if the buyer re-enrolls he will not be eligible for free months
  4. No, the cartridges cannot be used again. You will have to purchase regular cartridges to enroll in the service
  5. The first set of ink cartridges you received are part of the welcome kit
  6. If you sell the printer in a week of cancellation, the consumer must buy new ink after the service cancellation goes after 3 weeks.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I can't understand how this daylight robbery could have gone legal.

I will soon cancel my plan and if MY PRIVATELY OWNED LEGALLY BOUGHT cartridge stops working, I will sue HP. That's it, simple as that. HP has no right to break my private property.

Regular ink cartridges will work with the printer, once cancellation ends.

Hope this helps
