HP DeskJet 3720 All-in-One Printer

I received my first replacement colour cartridge as part of my instant ink plan and when I insert it it shows empty and a red flashing light appears . I cannot print, it will even not print the information page and have been through the trouble shooting scenarios.if I re-insert my old cartridge the printer works again any help would be appreciated
