I have just about had it with HP printers. I've been using HP printers for years and my printer, about four times a day, will disconnect from the internet and then, after a minute, will reconnect again, and it's so annoying that I am getting to the point where I am done with HP and going back to a Compuslayer.

I am a former Network Engineer, and there isn't anything wrong with my network; everything connects to Wi-Fi without any problems. It is only the printer for the past 18 months or more that has kept dropping the connection about four times a day, which could be more, and it is in the same room as the router, so it isn't a Wi-Fi problem. I've reset the printer, and it still doesn't make a difference. Restart the printer, and it still disconnects four times a day that I know of.

It is the only Wi-Fi device on my network that has a disconnection problem; other devices disconnect like the HP printer, and I haven't got to the weird part yet. It shows as disconnected from Wi-Fi. I can see the symbol orange, so I know it can be disconnected from Wi-Fi, but it still has an IP address that I can see connected on my network, but the printer is saying disconnected. The printer is showing a valid IP, which I can ping, so I know that it is connected. If this were disconnected, you wouldn't be able to ping the IP address.

I am not alone. I looked at community forums, social media platforms, and there are loads of customers with the same problem, so this is isolated to just me. So I beg the question of what is going on, and I think I may have a plausible theory: is this HP Instant Ink performing an automatic signal test to the printer's Wi-Fi, disconnects, but there is still a valid IP address? I may have answered my own question.

I upgraded my network with a new router and it still has the same problem disconnecting and reconnecting. I've had a variety of printers over the years and never have I come across an HP printer that disconnects from wifi as much as this one does and I am at the point where I'm saying that I am done because it's so frustrating.

@Hefeydd, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Update Printer Firmware

Check if your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Use the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant to update it.

Change Wi-Fi Settings

Switch Wi-Fi Channel: Change your router’s Wi-Fi channel to 1, 6, or 11 to avoid interference.

Static IP for Printer: Set a static IP for the printer in your router’s settings to avoid IP conflicts.

Power Saving and Signal

Turn off any power-saving modes on the printer.

Move the printer closer to the router to reduce interference.

Check Router Settings

Make sure your router’s DHCP lease time is set to a long value.

Quality of Service (QoS): If your router has it, prioritize the printer.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
