Hi @Tdog5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating when your printer isn't working as expected, but there are some steps you can take to resolve the issue when you receive an error message about registering your ink cartridges with HP Instant Ink. Here's what you can try.

Restart your printer: Turn off your HP DeskJet 2720 printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve certain issues.

Ensure cartridges are correctly installed: Make sure that your ink cartridges are properly installed in the printer. Check that they are securely snapped into place and that there are no obstructions.

Check for firmware updates: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause issues with HP printers. Visit the HP website and search for firmware updates for your specific printer model. If there are updates available, follow the instructions to update the printer's firmware.

Reset the printer: You can try resetting the printer to its default settings. To do this, follow these steps:

  • a. Turn off the printer.
  • b. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • c. Wait for a minute or two.
  • d. Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • e. Turn on the printer.

Verify your HP Instant Ink account: Make sure you've successfully registered and activated your HP Instant Ink account. Double-check that the printer is associated with your Instant Ink account.

Check your internet connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network. A stable internet connection is necessary for the Instant Ink service to work. You can also try restarting your Wi-Fi router to ensure a stable connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
