I am having trouble registering a printer to instant ink since it was registered from another account. I got this printer second hand from a garage sale/ fundraiser, so I do not know the previous owner of the printer.

When a printer has been previously registered to HP Instant Ink, it remains linked to the previous owner’s account unless they remove it. Unfortunately, without access to the previous account, it is challenging to register it to your Instant Ink account. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

 

Check the Printer's Status

  • If the printer still has an active Instant Ink subscription, you may need to remove it from the service to register it to a new account.
  • Print a network configuration or status report from the printer to check its current state. Instructions for this can be found in the printer manual.

Perform a Full Factory Reset

  • Resetting the printer to its factory settings can sometimes remove previous account associations. The reset process varies by model, so consult your printer's user manual or the HP support website for detailed steps.
  • Note: This may not guarantee removal of Instant Ink registration but can help clear user-specific settings.

Try Using the Printer Without Instant Ink

  • If you can’t register it for Instant Ink, you can still use the printer with standard cartridges (non-Instant Ink cartridges) by purchasing them separately.
