Our black ink for our printer is showing half full but will not print. We have tried several ways to get the ink flowing with no success. How do I add a black ink cartridge to my Instant Ink account? It sent us a colored cartridge, but need black and the Virtual Assistant doesn’t understand my problem

Hi @LKMor,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Instant Ink service doesn't yet think you need a replacement ink cartridge, but you believe you do need one, here are a few steps you can try.

  • Check Ink Levels Manually: Verify that the ink levels displayed by your printer match your perception of how much ink is remaining. Sometimes, the printer might not accurately reflect the ink levels, causing a mismatch with the Instant Ink service.
  • Modify Printing Settings: If you are doing a lot of high-quality or color printing, the ink might be depleting faster than usual. Adjust your printing settings to draft or grayscale mode when possible to conserve ink.
  • Manually Request Cartridge: Some HP Instant Ink plans allow you to manually request additional cartridges even before your printer indicates you need them. Log in to your HP Instant Ink account online and look for an option to manually request cartridges. Keep in mind that this might not be available on all plans.
  • Adjust Print Frequency: If you believe your printing needs have increased, you can try printing a few more pages to trigger the service to send you a replacement cartridge. Sometimes, the system might wait until you're closer to the limit of your current cartridge before sending a new one.
  • Upgrade Your Plan: If you find that you consistently need more ink than your current plan provides, consider upgrading to a higher tier of the Instant Ink service that offers more pages per month.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
