I am not and have never been an Instant Ink customer, but I have purchased PC's directly from HP. This means that HP does have a business relationship with me, which may be their excuse for continuing to send me Instant Ink messages.

However, even in cases where there is an existing business relationship, companies still can't continually send purely marketing messages without an opt-out option. I don't see anything like that in the Instant Ink messages. Is HP breaking the law and subject to huge fines, or am I just missing it? How do I opt out of this spam?

The "private message" just told me to post a question. Worse, it told me to provide my HP product number when I did that, which already has nothing to do with my question: how do I stop the HP spam?

(i don't have an applicable HP product, so I can't provide a product number, can!?)

That response was not helpful and has just made me annoyed with HP for wasting my time with something is A) not actionable and B) off-topic and unrelated to my question.

you can find the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
