How to enroll to Instant Ink with a second-hand 3720 printer which cant print

Hello, 

I have given away my HP 3720 printer to a friend, when I upgraded for a more advanced printer (I replaced the printer linked to my Instant Ink contract).

For a few days, my friend could still print a few copies with embedded Instant Ink cartridge.

But now he cant anymore, and looking at the web server of the printer the error for both cartridge says that we cant use these cartridge out of an Instant Ink contract.

This seems completely normal. 

So now my friend wants to sign up to Instant Ink to continue to use the printer.

But how can he print the information page with the printer code, which is a mandatory step to be able to sign up to Instant Ink?

It looks a bit silly to buy a set of cartridges just to print 1 single info page in order to register to Instant Ink.

So Is there a way to somehow work-arround this issue?

Buy just one ink cartridge, either black or color to print the page.

Deskjet 3700 printers do not have an ePrint button. Retrieve your printer claim code by pressing the Information button  to print a page titled “Printer Information Page". This page shows the status of the wireless network connection. See the following instructions, depending on the status of the wireless network connection:

• The printer is already connected to a wireless network:

  1. Press the Web Services button  and the Information button  at the same time to print instructions.

  2. If the printed page does not contain an ePrint address and printer claim code, follow the instructions on the printed page to enable Web Services. After you enable Web Services, a page titled "Congratulations" prints with the ePrint address and printer claim code.

• The printer is not connected to a wireless network:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button  for 3 seconds to print the Wireless Quick Start Guide.

  2. Follow instructions in the guide to connect the printer to your wireless network.
  3. Press the Web Services button  and the Information button  at the same time to print instructions. If the printed page does not contain an ePrint address and printer claim code, follow the instructions on the printed page to enable Web Services. After you enable Web Services, a page titled "Congratulations" prints with the ePrint address and printer claim code.

If the "Congratulations" page has only an ePrint address (no printer claim code), the printer was previously claimed to another HP Smart account (formerly HP Connected). Print the printer information sheet by pressing the Information button , and then locate the printer IP address on the printed page. Enter the printer IP address in a web browser and navigate to the "Web Services" section of the web page. Remove and then re-enable web services. A page titled “Congratulations” prints with your printer claim code.
