How do I end this plan but still use the ink I have left?

The HP Instant Ink cartridges are only usable while there is an active HP Instant Ink subscription.  If you cancel the account the cartridges will not work after the subscription ends.

I will ask to have an HP Instant Ink Support agent step into this thread.

@ltlov93, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Instant Ink Issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you cancel your HP Instant Ink plan, the Instant Ink cartridges you have will stop working once the billing cycle ends—they're tied to the subscription.

If you pause your subscription, we’ll stop sending new ink, but you'll need to switch to regular HP cartridges during that time—Instant Ink cartridges won’t work while the plan is paused.

You can always re-enroll later if you’d like to continue the service.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

When I chose to pause my subscription, no one said I couldnt use the ink thats currently in the printer. They just said that I could only print 10 copies and would be charged $1.50 per  10 copies after that. Nothing about having to use regular store ink. This really isnt  a cool thing to do to customers. People should be able to get off the plan without strings.  I will encourage my friends to not ever subscribe to this as it ends up being very hard to break away.  And as you get older, you dont print as much . Situations change and I have too much ink ( 2 boxes left) that I cant use. I should get reimbursed somehow or just be able to use them until I run out. But that doesnt work here. It keeps you tied to the program.  Its like your a prisoner. This isnt right.

@ltlov93, Thanks for sharing your honest feedback—we truly understand how frustrating this situation must feel.

You're absolutely right to expect clarity and flexibility, especially when your printing needs change. To clarify: HP Instant Ink cartridges are subscription-based and rely on an active plan to function, even if you have unused cartridges. Pausing the plan does halt shipments, but unfortunately, it also disables those cartridges during the pause.

If you'd like, we can help explore alternatives or support you through the transition. We're here for you.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

So then I should just cancel the service.  And buy my own cartridges.  This makes no sense.  I have 2 unopened boxes of cartridges. Can I return them for reimbursement?

When you sign up for the Instant Ink program you are not purchasing ink, you are purchasing a subscription to a set number of pages per month.  The ink is supplied, but it remains the property of HP and must be returned if you cancel the program in accordance with the terms of service.  See sections 5.d and 9.c of the terms of service here.
