Hi @mill73,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP printer and Instant Ink cartridge not being recognized issue. Let’s go through a few checks.

Step 1: Confirm cartridge compatibility and installation

Verify both cartridges are HP Instant Ink 67 or 305 as required by your printer model.

Remove the cartridges again and confirm all protective tape is fully removed.

Reinstall the cartridges firmly until they click into place.

Close the cartridge access door completely.

Step 2: Reset the printer

Turn the printer on.

Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait 60 seconds.

Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and turn the printer on.

Step 3: Clean cartridge contacts

Open the cartridge access door.

Remove the cartridges.

Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.

Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges.

Allow them to dry completely and reinstall.

Step 4: Check Instant Ink connection

Open HP Smart.

Select the printer.

Confirm the printer is connected to the internet.

Check that Instant Ink status shows Ready or Active.

Note: Instant Ink cartridges must communicate with HP servers through the printer’s internet connection.

Step 5: Print a printer status report

Press the Information button on the printer.

Review the report for cartridge or supply error messages.

Confirm whether the cartridges appear in the supply section.
