HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I am getting the incompatible cartridge error message. Not sure why it came up because it was working fine. Now I get this message that this printer is not designed to use continuous ink system. I unplugged the printer from the outlet and the back of printer and waited a minute. It still has the same error message. Can someone help?

Hi @Gloria100 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the "incompatible cartridge" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 could stem from several potential issues, and it seems the continuous ink system could be causing the conflict. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure you're using genuine HP ink cartridges designed for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9025. Sometimes third-party or refilled cartridges can trigger this error, especially if the printer detects a non-authentic or incompatible cartridge.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it again.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove all the cartridges.
  • Carefully reinsert the cartridges, making sure they are properly seated and the protective tape has been removed (if any).
  • Close the door and power the printer back on.

Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Sometimes, a firmware update may resolve issues like cartridge compatibility. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or through the printer's control panel under Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.

Reset the Printer:

  • If you haven't already, try performing a hard reset:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    • Plug the printer back in, then turn it on and check if the error clears.

Ensure No Continuous Ink System is Installed:

  • The error message you received suggests that a continuous ink system (CIS) is detected, but your printer is not designed to use one. If you've installed a CIS, remove it and revert to the standard HP cartridges.

Printer Settings and Network Connection:

  • If you’re using Instant Ink or a third-party service, ensure the printer is connected to your account and configured correctly. A mismatch in the service settings can trigger errors like this.

I hope this helps.
