Hi @Ngb2024,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP DeskJet 2820e is showing an "incompatible cartridge" error with the new cartridges provided by HP, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Check Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure that the cartridges you’re using are indeed compatible with your HP DeskJet 2820e model. Even though they are from HP, there might be different cartridge types for various models.
Remove and Reinsert Cartridges:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
- Check for any protective tape or plastic that might still be on the cartridges.
- Reinsert the cartridges, making sure they click into place.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- With the printer off, carefully remove the cartridges.
- Gently clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer using a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water.
- Allow everything to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or HP’s website.
Reset the Printer:
- Perform a factory reset on your printer. This can often resolve issues with cartridge recognition. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
Test with Old Cartridges:
- If you still have the old cartridges, try reinserting them to see if the error persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the new cartridges or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, I tried all these. I took my printer to the tip thinking it was defective (it was 5 years old). Bought another HP printer from Curry's. I could not get it set up as I kept getting incompatible cartridge errors even though these were the cartridges provided with the printer. I have requested a return from Curry's and bought a Canon PIXMA, which is working beautifully. Will never buy HP again. They need to sort this issue out as, looking at the discussions, it is widespread.
