Hi @rtcary1

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you see an error stating Cartridges empty, howver you see the ink and unable to Print a test page, I would request you to please follow the steps:

Check Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure the  ink cartridge is seated correctly in the printer. Sometimes, the cartridge might not be inserted fully, which can cause it to show as empty.
  • If the cartridge isn’t inserted properly, remove it and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place.

Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the ink cartridge from the printer.
  • Gently clean the contacts (the copper-colored parts of the cartridge) with a soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel lightly dampened with water. Be careful not to touch the ink nozzles.
  • Reinstall the cartridge, making sure it is properly connected.

Check for Protective Tape

  • If the cartridge is new, make sure you removed the protective tape that often covers the cartridge nozzles.
  • If the tape is still on, the printer might not be able to detect the ink level properly.
  • Remove any plastic packaging or tape from the new cartridge, then try printing again.

Reset the Printer

  • Sometimes, simply turning the printer off and on can help reset the ink cartridge detection.
  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for a couple of minutes.
  • Plug it back in and power it on, then check the ink level again.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
