Hi @Pamjoe,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble with your black ink cartridge not working in your HP printer, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check the ink level: Make sure the black ink cartridge has enough ink to print. Most HP printers have a feature that allows you to check ink levels through the printer's software or on the printer display.
  • Clean the cartridge: Sometimes ink cartridges can get clogged or have dried ink on the print head. Try removing the black ink cartridge and gently wiping the print head with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab dampened with distilled water. Be careful not to touch the copper-colored contacts or nozzles.
  • Align the cartridge: Your printer might have an alignment feature that ensures the cartridges are properly aligned for optimal printing. Check your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform an alignment.
  • Restart the printer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary issues. Turn off your printer, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Update printer drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers and firmware installed for your printer. You can usually download these from the HP website or through the HP Smart app.
  • Replace the cartridge: If none of the above steps work and you suspect the black ink cartridge is faulty, try replacing it with a new one. Make sure you're using a genuine HP ink cartridge compatible with your printer model.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with your black ink cartridge in your HP printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
