Hi @Willowangel ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating, especially when you need your printer for business. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue with the black ink cartridge:
- Check Cartridge Installation: Make sure the black ink cartridge is properly installed. Remove it and then reinsert it, ensuring it clicks into place.
- Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, dirt or residue on the contacts can prevent proper communication. Gently wipe the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that any protective tape or plastic that was covering the cartridge's contacts has been removed.
- Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. You can usually do this through the printer’s settings menu or by visiting the HP website.Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Try Another Cartridge: If you have another black ink cartridge (even if it's not brand new), try installing it to see if the issue is with the cartridge or the printer.
- Printer Diagnostics: Run any built-in diagnostics or alignment tools provided in the printer’s software or on the printer’s control panel.
