Hi @Kellie44-,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure the cartridges are installed correctly. Sometimes, removing and reinstalling them can help.
  • Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Confirm that the cartridges you received are compatible with the 6978 model.
  • Clean Contacts: Clean the gold contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth. Avoid touching the contacts with your fingers.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer, as updates can sometimes resolve cartridge issues.
  • Align Cartridges: If possible, try to run a cartridge alignment from the printer’s control panel or software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
