I like my printer, which is now out of warranty. It still prints and scans fine—and I assume faxes fine, but I haven't faxed in a while. However, when I updated my WiFi router, provided by my internet-service provider, the printer could no longer connect to Instant Ink. Otherwise, it functions fine with all other devices. I exhausted all possible solutions with HP's support team, and kudos to each one who attempted to resolve this issue, but it wasn't possible.

This meant I had to cancel my Instant Ink subscription because HP was no longer able to see the printer status, and I didn't want to upgrade to replace a printer that's working just fine just to keep my Instant-Ink subscription that no longer sees my printer.

This is a failure on the part HP Instant-Ink service, in that it becomes the tail wagging the dog in these circumstances, apparently attempting to coerce me into buying a new printer through not keeping communication functions updated in the software. It's a poor strategy to retain satisfied Instant-Ink customers—or HP printer customers, in general.

Maybe you could revisit this business strategy.

@Ron_P, Welcome to the HP Community!

You don't have to replace your printer if you aren't interested in the HP Instant Ink, you can simply cancel it and get regular cartridges from the nearest store to use instead of the instant ink cartridges, that said, for the account related concerns I can have a look for you, all I need is the serial number of your device or the registered email ID - since we are concerned about your privacy, you can send those details in a private message by replying to me, I've sent a private message to you, so you can find it easily, just click on the envelope next to the bell to see my message.

If this solution hit the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi @Ron_P,

Thank you for the response:

We see that you have initiated the cancellation.

But you can still try a network reset and see if it connects:

Restore Network Defaults (on printer):

On the printer control panel, tap the Home icon.

Tap the Wireless icon.

Tap the Settings ⚙️ icon (usually a gear).

Tap Restore Network Defaults.

Confirm when prompted — the wireless settings will reset.

Once that’s done, the wireless light will blink, this means it’s ready for reconfiguration.

Please Note:

If you cancel:

  • You can continue printing with Instant Ink supplies until the end of your current billing cycle.
  • At the end of the billing cycle, you must remove Instant Ink cartridges and purchase Original HP Ink or Toner directly from the retailer of your choice to continue printing. Instant Ink cartridges only work in enrolled printers.
  • Your final monthly charge comes at the end of the billing cycle.

I hope this helps.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Thank you for taking the time to respond, but this doesn't reconnect the printer with Instant-Ink. Otherwise, the printer works fine with all other devices, laptops, phones, etc.

When we updated our WiFi Router, provided by our internet service provider, all other devices connected to the new network normally. The ONLY device or service that would not reconnect was Instant-Ink; it cannot see the printer ink-levels, even after a complete system reset and or/network reset.

Therefore, we had to unsubscribe from Instant-Ink--not because we were unhappy with it or the printer, but only because we updated our WiFi Router.

Again, thank for taking the time.

Best regards,

Ron
