HP ENVY 6020e All-in-One Printer

Technically the offer works out cheaper, but the execution is like a ransom held over me, causes me stress & breeds hate for HP.

I remember when companies used to get you on their side & make you enjoy the brand, but Instant Ink is intrusive, I feel like every time I print I get an email about how my usage is going - stop spying on me! I can't even unsubscribe from these emails. Ive had about 30 emails about instant ink & upgrading in 9 months, seems a bit spammy.
If I stop using Instant Ink they are going to remotely BRICK my printer, so I'm stuck with it.

The printer & ink in my house is not mine, they have control to stop it. This experience is not apparent when you sign up because it's something you cant really understand how you feel about it until you are subjected to it.

I signed up for the awesome 9 months free. For some reason I had to reboot the printer everytime I wanted to use it as it was offline. I'm using Linux so im not going to get any support. & the chat bot is useless.

I bought a good model, so I thought ... but the "smart" side is once again crippling. The lights & buttons on the device are meaningless icons.
Once the 9 months was up & I started paying the printer suddenly started working properly without needing a power cycle every time - how odd?
Coincidentally this is when HP tell me they are increasing the price 50%.

Ultimately, this is still cheaper, so I'll carry on, but it makes me hate HP as a company. I've sworn to never buy anything with HP on in again.

I just wanted to express this in the hope someone at HP reads it. You are really not promoting loyalty with this unsettling spyware & ransomware situation.

Hi @Riquez,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you

I understand you are frustrating experience with the HP ENVY 6020e All-In-One Printer and its Instant Ink service. Dealing with intrusive emails, feeling like your usage is being monitored, and facing potential consequences if you decide to stop using Instant Ink can indeed be very stressful.

As it's a paper-based subscription , an ink-based subscription, the plan is to provide you a set number of pages to print every month and charge for the same, the ink is not sent every month but only when it is low.
Pages not used in a month are carried forward and you can check the rollover number of pages in your instant ink account.

If you wish to cancel the instant ink subscriptions ahead cancel you can go ahead and cancel and you can use the regular cartridges

Refer to this document: HP Instant Ink - Manage your account

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Ive cancelled instant-ink & bought my own cartridges.

However Im now worried that I can't use the printer for a month because the billing cycle has just renewed.

Can I just remove the instant-ink cartridges & put my own in? Or will it start double-charging me for using my own ink now?

Thanks.
I replied to your PM with the requested details.

As mentioned Ive cancelled instant-ink & bought my own ink cartridges. But, Im now unsure if I can use these cartridges or I have to wait a month for instant-ink to expire.

I guess since instant-ink has already renewed on the the same day I cancelled, im stuck with it for another month. SO, should I print the 10 pages im entitled to & pay the £1.50 & then ....?? Can I remove the installed cartridge & use my own - or will I be charged for using my own purchaced ink at that point too?

This whole concept seems pretty flawed to me, I feel like I have to buy a new printer just to escape this trap.

Hi @Riquez,

Yes! You can use it to print the pages, as you have canceled the Subscriptions and they will get canceled only at the end of the subscription date

Keep me posted.

I am 100% with you. I am about to throw away 2 HP printers because of Instant Ink. HATE HATE HATE it. Dreadful service. Recently I deleted an email address. I thought I had nothing associated with it anymore but in fact instant ink was linked to it. After many HOURS of chat and phone calls they could not just change my email address. They wanted me to resetup the whole awful thing from the beginning. Now I hate HP and myself as I am going to cause dreadful waste of ink and throwing away 2 printers just because they can't just change an email address. THey've blocked my printer even though it is full of ink THAT I HAVE PAID FOR just because THEY can't change my email address on my account.
