HP ENVY Photo 6230 All-in-One Printer

Instant Ink portal can´t connect to my Envy Photo 6230 printer and therefore gives error "Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink. I already re-installed drivers and software made factory reset to printer and checked from router that printer has access to outside. Latest firmware is installed to printer.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I am glad to assist you to fix the web service connection error on your printer.

How is the printer connected?

Meanwhile, follow these steps to fix the issue.

Turn On Web Services

  • Make sure the printer is connected to a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network with an active internet connection.
  • NOTE: If you connect your printer to a computer with a USB cable, web-connected printing services do not work.
  • If your printer is connected with a wired (Ethernet) connection, check the cable and the lights on the printer’s Ethernet port. The green link light should be steady, and the orange activity light should blink when the cable is connected.
  • If your printer is connected with a wireless connection, make sure the wireless feature is on and the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Some printers have a wireless icon and a blue light on the front of the printer. If the printer has a blue light, and the light is on and not blinking, your printer is connected.
  • On your control panel, press the HP ePrint icon.
  • If your control panel does not have an HP ePrint icon, navigate to Web Services Setup, Network Setup, or Wireless Settings to open the Web Services menu.
  • If a summary screen displays, Web Services is already on.
  • Example of Web Services Summary screen
  • If a prompt to turn on Web Services or set up HP ePrint displays, follow the prompts to turn it on or set it up.
  • Example of the HP ePrint set up screen
  • If you are prompted to update the firmware, press OK.

Printer is on WLAN network and can be found with browser on IP address, so it´s connected but HP Smart or other printer diagnostics can´t find the printer. I removed all HP programs and drivers, then re-installed. Install wizard finds the printer and everything goes fine until HP smart is installed. After that printer disappears. I tried to install only basic drivers but still it installed HP Smart even I tried stop it.

HP Smart is the culprit here but I can´t find a way to leave it out. I downloaded the basic drivers from support page and after the install it suggested to install HP Smart, which I could not stop.

This seems to be a driver issue:-

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

I did exactly as you guided and printer is now online but same error message is still there "Cartridges require HP instant ink enrollment".

As a matter of a fact, I did it twice but same result on both times.

What now?

HP Recommended

HP smart printer status states that "information not available" and connection states that "printer is not connected".

Log says that connection was broken 10th of December. Nothing was done to printer then. First connection broke from color cartridge and few days after from black cartridge.
