Hi @Dorisscroggins,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it must be to receive Instant Ink cartridges that don’t seem to work, especially when store-bought ones do. Rest assured, HP Instant Ink sends the correct cartridges, but sometimes, new cartridges need a reset or cleaning to be recognized properly. Let’s try these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Power Drain on the Printer

a. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
b. Press and hold the power button on the printer for 20 seconds.
c. Wait for 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord.
d. Turn the printer on and check if the error is resolved.

2. Check & Wipe Cartridge Contacts

  • Sometimes, dirt or residue on the cartridge contacts can cause recognition issues.
  • Remove the Instant Ink cartridges and gently wipe the gold contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth.
  • If necessary, use an alcohol-based cleaning solution to remove stubborn marks.

3. Wipe Contacts Inside the Printer

  • If the cartridges are clean, the contacts inside the printer might need cleaning.
  • If visible, gently clean them using the same method.
  • Make sure no tissue scraps are left behind.

After completing these steps, reinstall the Instant Ink cartridges and check if the printer recognizes them. If the issue persists, let me know, and we can explore further troubleshooting options. 😊

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
