HP DeskJet 2710e All-in-One Printer

I have signed up to instant ink. Does my printer have to be switched on and connected to the Internet permanently or just when I am printing? I might not use my printer for a few weeks or even months at a time so seems a waste to leave it switched on all the time. Thank you.

Hi @Graham-b_50,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are looking for information related to your instant ink account.

HP Instant Ink monitors your ink cartridge levels so replacement ink cartridges can be sent to you when you need them. When your printer is not connected to the Internet for a day or two, depending on how much is being printed, monitoring is interrupted, and one of the following error messages might display on your computer or printer:

Connect Printer to Update HP Instant Ink Status

If the printer is not connected to HP Connected you will be unable to print soon

Cannot print - Press OK to connect printer to update status

Press OK to connect printer so replacement cartridge can be ordered

Press OK to connect printer to update status.

Take care and have a good day
